Meet the Founder: An Interview with Kruti Garg
Today, we sit down with the heart and soul of Bombay Gothic, conservation architect and artist Kruti Garg, to talk about her passion for the city, the inspiration behind the brand, and her vision for the future.
What was the spark that ignited Bombay Gothic?
Kruti: It wasn't a single spark, but more of a slow burn. As a conservation architect, I spend my days preserving the physical fabric of our cities. But I always felt a pull to preserve the intangible as well—the memories, the moods, the nostalgia that these heritage structures evoke. Bombay Gothic became my way of translating that feeling into something tangible, something people could hold and make a part of their daily lives. I wanted to add art to everyday life.
Why the focus on Gothic architecture specifically?
Kruti: The Victorian Gothic style is, to me, the city's architectural identity. It’s grand, it's ambitious, and it’s uniquely Bombay's because of the way Indian artisans adapted it. It tells the story of the city's transformation from a group of islands to 'Urbs Prima in Indis'. It’s a style that is both powerful and deeply artistic, which makes it an endless source of inspiration.
"Every piece is a love letter to the city’s soul — where art, heritage, and storytelling meet."
What is your biggest dream for the brand?
Kruti: My dream is for Bombay Gothic to become a true cultural ambassador for the city. I want people to see our products and not just appreciate the design, but feel a genuine connection to the story behind it. I hope that our work encourages more people to look up, to explore their own cities, and to find the art that exists all around them in the heritage that we so often take for granted.
